211s on 9/11. Unlike other places where public transportation is simply a means to travel, in New York City, the subway is interwoven as part of the fabric of the city. On the night of September 11, 2023, four brand new Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway Kawasaki built R-211As (4144-4141) were sitting at the South Brooklyn Railway Yard at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Brooklyn, New York. In the background is the Tribute In Light, a tradition that was developed and carries on in New York City 22 years later to illuminate the area where the World Trade Center once stood tall over the skyline on September 11 every year.
