Remarks & Notes
Five units hustle Conrail ML-480Y east through Fullers, NY on the Selkirk Branch. The head end is at the location where the east and westbound mains separate on the western approach to the flyover at Fullers. The flyover dates back to a time when the New York Central constructed a four-track main between Albany and Buffalo, with freights running "left-handed" on the northernmost tracks. The flyover therefore repositioned trains for more typical right-handed running on the Selkirk Branch (and vice versa) without the need for crossovers. ML-480 was a daily train from Toledo/Stanley, OH to Doremus Ave in Newark, NJ. On this day it was apparently running in multiple extra sections. The five-unit consist includes an interesting mix of GE and EMD power.
