| Close enough...The Southern Pacific (Northwestern Pacific) and its successors were doomed from the start in Humboldt County, California. The main reason none of these railroads could ever be profitable is the fire hose they call the Eel River. The Eel regularly floods in a way that makes other rivers with destructive urges envious. The flood of 1998 was enough and these Geeps have been effectively landlocked about a hundred miles from next active rail ever since. |
