There are some cool relics along this old Rock Island mainline to Colorado Springs. A lot of the code line has been taken down along with some of the ABS signals. Here east of Brewster, along old highway 24, there is a good chunk of code line still left. The evening sun basket the westbound KYLE Limon train as they creep towards Brewster. The train will do work here and change crews before heading into Goodland for all-night work.
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.
