Parked Indefinitely, Or Not. East Broad Top Railroad (EBT) 16 (2-8-2, Baldwin, 1916) was sitting inside the roundhouse in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania on the evening of Saturday, November 2, 2019 during the first public event at the railroad in over 8 years. And in fact, it had been sitting inside the roundhouse for decades, as the railroad had ceased tourist operation in 2011, but 16 not operated under its own power since the East Broad Top Railroad Company stopped its regular operations in 1956. On August 13, 2020, this locomotive was nicknamed "Nick" after former owner Nick Kovalchick, the highest honor that the EBT can bestow. Selected to be the first to be restored to operating service, 16 saw a complete rebuild mere feet away from where this photo was taken at the subsequently augmented EBT facility. On February 1, 2023, the railroad announced that it was operating under its own steam power, and will make its public debut at the upcoming Winter Spectacular. Congratulations to all!
