GP40P. For its 40th Anniversary in 2019, New Jersey Transit repainted GP40PH-2B 4109 (CNJ Heritage, ex-NJT 4106, née-CNJ 3677, GP40P, 10/1968) into its original paint scheme. As part of an upgrade to commuter service, this was part of a group of 13 EMD built GP40P engines that NJ DOT purchased in conjunction with the CNJ in 1968. The units have since been rebuilt with various upgrades, including replacing the original steam generator with head end power. On the night of Saturday, September 24, 2022, volunteers stand in the scene as railroad employees, at the URHS facility in Boonton, New Jersey. The engine is only visiting as part of the “Museum For A Day” event, and will return to regular service the following week.
