First Day On The Zephyr. On Friday, August 26, 2022, the Amtrak California Zephyr was powered exclusively by Siemens ALC-42s for the first time. AMTK 301 (First Day, 50th Anniversary) and 309 (Phase VII) were actually on line while AMTK 313 and 314 were being delivered from the Siemens plant and were en route to Wilmington, Delaware for acceptance testing. AMTK 311 is sitting in front of the Boilermakers building, having already been delivered. The 125 engines from the total order will be the new face of Amtrak's long distance trains in the future. The train is seen by the Amtrak facility in Chicago, Illinois with the Chicago skyline in the background.
