Day One. On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Amtrak added Siemens ALC42s 301 (Day One) and 302 (Phase VI) to the consist of the Empire Builder (Train 7) in Chicago, Illinois for the first time on line. Before the train departed, the engines were turn on the wye, allowing for this shot of AMTK 301 leading. These locomotives are "Buy America" compliant, built in Sacramento, California. Amtrak 301 displays the "Day One" paint scheme that Amtrak applied to an EMD E8 for its first day, May 1, 1971.
