Montana Rail Link LM train (Laurel to Missoula freight) bends through Lombard Canyon between Lombard and Toston, Montana, on the afternoon of September 11, 1995. On the point is EMD F45 No. 391 leading four more six-axle EMDs, including a former Susquehanna SD45, along the placid waters of the Missouri River. On January 10, 2022, BNSF announced that it will reacquire Montana Rail Link, ending nearly 35 years of MRL operations of the former Northern Pacific main line and adjoining branches across southern Montana.
