The Original New Tech Cars.
New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R110A cars 8001, 8005, 8010, and 8006 are seen sitting at the South Brooklyn Railway Yard near 3rd Ave and 38th St in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. These four cars are the last four unmodified R110As remaining, but that won't be so for long. These four will be leaving the property soon to be rebuilt; two of the cars will become pump cars and the other two will become generator cars to power equipment on generator and hose reach cars.
The R110As and R110Bs were built specifically to test new features that would later become part of the R142 and R143 car orders. Enough cars for a single train of each type were ordered, and entered service in 1993. They lasted many years until being removed from service, and since then the R110As have been sitting unused. The R110A B-cars were converted to hose reach cars for pump trains, and now it is finally the A-cars turn.
