Remarks & Notes
It is only 3:52 pm (15:52), but the sun is already low in the sky, and will set in another hour. Still, it is all good, as Pacific Harbor Line local YPSW14-27 rarely switches the Weyerhaeuser Lumber (Fremont Forest) facility while the sun is up, even in the "longer" days of summer, so this is a treat. PHL MP20C-3 67 is bringing in two loaded centerbeam bulkhead flats, to add to the three cars already being unloaded within the facility at the end of the Pier T Lead. Once the lumber has been delivered, PHL 67 will haul five ROGX hopper cars north. PHL 67 was built by MotivePower Inc. in December 2007, utilizing the frame from Southern Pacific SD40R 7361 (ex-SP SD40 8478) – notice the plate on the nose, where the SP lights used to be. As with all of PHL’s fleet, MP20C-3 locomotives have a cleaner exhaust them most diesels. Looming in the distance are the old, decommissioned Gerald Desmond Bridge (note the netting underneath its span, which catch chunks of concrete that were falling off of this 1968-built bridge), and behind it, the recently opened Long Beach International Gateway cable-stayed bridge with a clearance of 205 ft (62 m) above the waterline, which allows larger container ships to pass underneath then the older Gerald Desmond Bridge did.
