"The Big Lift"
On the morning of October 9th, 2021, vintage boxcar "SHOP 100" was unloaded at its new home at the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. In this frame, the boxcar has just been lifted by the Riggers Special forklift and the trailer which carried it from the yard is in the process of being moved out of the way. From here, it will be picked up and placed back onto it's trucks which are already in place in the display yard.
SHOP 100 (NH 32006) is a former New Haven Railroad 40ft "PS-1" boxcar built by Pullman Standard in 1944. This freight car ran in revenue service around the country till the 1970s, when it was transferred to the LIRR as a surplus car. The LIRR used the car in work train service, then as a mobile parts storage unit. After sitting at Holban Yard in Queens, NY for many years the car was graciously donated to the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. The museum plans to repaint the car into its original colors and use it as a storage unit while it sits on display.
