Remarks & Notes
Incredible Progress. For the first time since leaving the Third Avenue Railway for The Shore Line Trolley Museum in 1948, 1908 J.G. Brill car 830 has been repainted. On Monday, October 11, 2021, the car was moved from a storage barn to the museum's shop, with a brief photo stop where the diesel was cut away for a moment. The next step in the stabilization and rehabilitation of the car is the removal of its 2 Westinghouse 310 motors, which will be rebuilt so that the car can operate again under its own power. The car has also had extensive work done to restore its interior. It is believed that it last operated in 1953, and it was stored outdoors for many years before finally being tarped and eventually moved indoors. This car spent its career operating in the Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester before being retired. Some of the other cars of this Brill built 10 window double truck PAYE class were sold to San Diego and Quebec Railway, Light & Power, none survive today.
