Remarks & Notes 
The "newest" F40s, built in 1987/88 were going through overhaul when additional P42 orders were being fulfilled, causing the program to end. 401 is an example that completed the program and operated up until around 2000 with this updated look. The last Amtrak F40s in active service were not part of this overhaul program and carried their Phase III colors in service until 2003. Today, only NPCUs remain on the roster.
