Birds Eye View Of The Big Boy. Union Pacific Railroad's 4014 ("Big Boy", 4-8-8-4, Alco, 1941) made the first stop of the day on its trip south to Fort Worth, TX in Vinita, Oklahoma on Thursday, August 12, 2021. While the "UP Steam Team" attended to the watering needs of the giant, people gathered trackside to see the world's largest operating steam engine. UP restored and returned 4014 to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad and has operated it over its system to not only display, but haul revenue freight and passenger specials as well.
