NRG’s Will County Generating Station in Romeoville, IL owns 2 EMD SD20 locomotive’s. Those SD20's are used to deliver coal trains in and out of the plant that Union Pacific delivers to them. One of the SD20’s, #1802 is 90% of the time parked in front of 135th Street at the front of the plant behind a fence, which is never really used. 1802 was built as UP SD24B 427B back in August of 1959. The other SD20, #1801 is usually WCCH’s main locomotive that they use to bring coal into the plant while the 1802 isn’t in use. The 1801 was built as SOU SD24 #2505 in October of 1959. But this day, they used the 1802, which is kind of rare. It’s rare to catch Will County running in general, but with 1802 it’s even more rare. 1801 got to take a rest for once, and was parked at the end of the track at 135th Street while 1802 did all the work. But It’s nice to see Will County use the 1802 again! After shoving a cut out of empties out of the plant, 1802 brings a new cut of loads in, screaming in notch 8, seen here street running along Material Road and kicking up some dust, and then making the curve into the NRG Generating Station to start unloading.
