"Opening Day at Moynihan"
As the sun rises over the giant glass skylight of the Train Hall, more and more visitors show up to take in their first views. At 5:00AM on January 1st, 2021 , Moynihan Train Hall opened it's doors to the public for the first time after years of planning and construction.
The Moynihan Train Hall is an expansion of New York Pennsylvania Station located within the James A. Farley Post Office Building, just across the street from the existing Penn Station complex. The Train Hall now serves as Amtrak's new "front door" and the Long Island Rail Road's secondary space for boarding trains, ticketing, etc. Some amenities offered are waiting rooms for both railroads, food, retail and Amtrak's new "Metropolitan Lounge", which replaces the old "ClubAcela" lounge that was located in the original building. Both the original building and the Train Hall share the same same platforms, though Tracks 1-4 cannot be accessed from the Train Hall.
