The Road To A More Certain Future. The history of New York Central's Buffalo Central Terminal did not begin in 1929, but that is when the station finally opened after many years of negotiation. From the time of the departure of the last Amtrak train in 1979, it had gone through a period of extreme decline before local citizens stepped in to prevent its total destruction. Windows have been replaced, electricity restored, and during normal times public tours are regularly offered. On the evening of December 7, 2020, the wide view at the hour of sunset shows the platforms to the left, the station building to the right, and the Belt Line running through the middle.
