In front of the Vorder Gärstenhorn (3166 meter a.s.l.), the most powerful 1 meter gauge cogwheel steamlocomotive of Europe (800 Hp) is pulling train 154 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) from Oberwald to Realp up the 11.0 % grade between Gletsch and Muttbach-Belvédère. In the background is the Furka pass road. The 0-8-0 T (four cylinder compound with separate drives of the 4 adhesion axles and to the 2 cogwheels) was built in 1923 by the SLM Winterthur for Indochina (today Vietnam) and was brought back to Switzerland in 1990. Operational since 2018 after a large revision. There is some fresh snow on the mountain from the days before, when it was cold and wet! Today, cristal clear sight! Note: The loco has no number and no DFB designation on the buffer board. This was the case for a few days after the previous inscriptions had been removed before the new, somewhat more sleeker, hand-painted inscriptions were applied by graphique artist Michaela Rapp.
