Remarks & Notes |
Burlington Northern SD24 6242 is spotted by the sand tower at Grand Forks ND April 1970. The 6242 was built in May 1959 as CB&Q 502 and retired in June 1982 and traded in to General Electric. This unit was repainted cascade green in October 1971. The SD24 was EMD's first attempt at a turbocharged engine and 224 examples were built including 45 B Units built for Union Pacific. The SD24 is considered the first stepping stone to the massive success EMD achieved in the 60s and 70s. J.W. Stubblefield Photo from my Collection. |
