Remarks & Notes
Notchin' up. On the afternoon of Sunday, September 23, 2018, Adirondack Scenic Railway 1835 (RS18u, ne-CP 8780, RS18, 5/1958), heads back to Utica, NY with a trainload of travelers. The MLW puts out a nice head of smoke as it hauls four cars across the Moose River on the former New York Central Adirondack Branch. Once the route of overnight trains to Lake Placid, it has today become divided as part tourist railroad and part center of controversy over conversion to trails.

The scenic Adirondack and Catskill Mountains offer wonderful views, but political forces have made it difficult for railroads to stay in business.
