Remarks & Notes
Great Northern SD7 566 waiting for an NP freight to cross Winter St. in Superior February 1970. GN 566 was built in March 1953 and retired as BN 6016 in September 1983. In this photo it looks like the 566 has fresh Big Sky Blue and also lacks a GREAT NORTHERN signboard on the handrails. This photo is about three weeks before the BN merger so maybe it was thought not to bother with the signboard but it also has fresh paint so I guess there's no rhyme or reason to what GN did before the merger. At any rate fresh Big Sky Blue sure looks sharp in the Wisconsin winter sun. Russ Porter Photo from my collection.
