Remarks & Notes
2839 was one of the last locomotives in service with Toll "corn cob" livery. Built in 1978 by General Electric USA, these locomotives are used for shunting and port transfer trains. Toll operated trains from 2003 to 2008 when the NZ Government bought back the rail business and vested it in KiwiRail. The train to Auckland Port enters Purewa tunnel.

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
