Remarks & Notes |
A new arrival to the state of Utah in November of 2019. Salt Lake & Garfield has acquired a former Kennecott Copper GP39-2. Built with elevated cabs for use in the Copper mine. These unit are truly unique. The unit was originally Kennecott Copper 710. It was sold in about 2008 to Rawhide Short Line and became 1088 at Platte River Power Authority's Rawhide Power Station near Wellington, Colorado. It returned to Utah in November, and received this sharp looking paint job in the SL&GW yard. Today I was able to see it out running for the first time. I had been hoping to photograph it in action. It's a hard railway to photograph as it's a industrial railroad. I was happy to find a spot to actually get a shot off. After being in business for 104 year the SL&GW is see a sudden growth n business the last couple years. An oil car loading facility on their trackage is really starting to ramp up it's business. Thus leading for this larger locomotive. Also an inland port is in the works for Salt Lake Cities west side of the valley. The SL&GW is to be a big player in this. |
