It's only been a few years since the L&N takeover of the Hoosier Line (Monon) between Louisville and Chicago as a southbound manifest runs the streets of Bedford, Indiana. Seemingly continually endangered since the aforementioned merger in 1971, these tracks beat the odds for decades and hosted regular freight trains up until 2010 when the Indiana Railroad abandoned its former Milwaukee Road branch between Bedford and Crane, Indiana. As of December 2019 these rails are actually still in place, but less than half a mile north of the location of this photo, the tracks come to a dead end.
