The lone Sequatchie Valley Railroad SW1500 1205 is slowly leading a seven car consist up hill after crossing over the Stateline heading north for Ply Gem Siding Group in Jasper, TN on the old NC&StL Jasper branch on the southwest side of South Pittsburg, TN (MP-345.0). Their not a lot of action going on this branch as it use to before the Sequatchie Valley Railroad, for more than a Century coal was very dominant in the Sequatchie Valley, as the Jasper branch was built in 1867 by the Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis Railroad. The original Sequatchie Valley Railroad was an extension that represent 8 more rail-miles from Jasper, TN to Victoria, TN. The line was built under contract with the Southern States Coal, Iron & Land Company. In 1888 the line was extend 18 more miles from Victoria, TN to Dunlap, TN, and finally in 1894 the branch extend one last time 20 miles northeast to Pikeville, TN near the head of the Valley. A total of 57 miles between Pikeville,TN and Bridgeport, AL. Today only 6+ miles of this line is still being use at the bottom of the valley by the Sequatchie Valley Railroad for switching industries in the valley , and storing cars.
