While the majority of railfans in the Northwest were busy flocking toward the Columbia Gorge for 4449's excursion to Bend, OR, my father and I headed east to the Kootenai River Gorge with a spectacular weather forecast for the days ahead. From our vantage point on the rocks high above, a manifest is seen twisting its way down the river canyon in spectacular evening light, making for a perfect start to a weekend of camping in Kootenai River Country!
