Union Pacific decided to regear a group of SD40-2's to high performance standards, these units were identified as SD40-2H's (FAST FORTIES)and renumbered into the 8000-Class as 8000-8034 and a second group 8035-8099, so as to differentiate between the standard 65-mph SD40-2 and the new 80-mph classification. The original number of 8008 is 3248. No photographer listed on slide.
