Immediately after its formation, Conrail transferred all six-axle Alco Centuries to Ohio for use in iron ore drag freight service. Of course a lot of that ore was destined for the steel mills in the greater Pittsburgh area, so it was not unusual to see a small fleet of them in Conway yard. Here a mix of C628’s, C630’s and C636’s, painted in Conrail blue, as well as patched Penn Central, Reading, and Lehigh Valley schemes congregate in Conway’s engine terminal.
