Long-silent Pennsylvania Railroad GP9 #7048 stands watch over Horseshoe Curve. In September, she will have been here for 30 years--2 years longer than 1361 was. On this wet February day, she watches the endless parade of black and white NS locomotives be interrupted by AC44C6M #4000, the 'Sonic Bonnet,' leading 22W down the hill.
Photo taken with the express permission of the Altoona Railroader's Memorial Museum, where I am a volunteer. The Horseshoe Curve is closed for the season, but we are preparing for the 2017 season. Stay tuned...
