The sun is rising over the Clark Fork River Valley east of St. Regis, Montana, on September 13, 1998. Morning fog is slowly burning off as the sun crests over the mountains to the east, silhouetting the milepost 192 semaphores on Montana Rail Link’s Fourth Subdivision. Wooden blades pointed straight into the sky indicate no trains nearby this beautiful autumn morning…
