Easter Surprise
It was a somewhat quiet holiday morning on the nearby Lehigh Line, and I was surprised to hear Conrail transfer job ME-84 heading east on the Northeast Corridor. The timing was right as I passed through Metuchen few hours later just as the job was returning with 29 cars from Oak Island Yard in Newark. ME-84's engineer doesn't have to worry about observing the posted 80mph (passenger) speed restriction through Lincoln interlocking as the train is already well under that speed. The lead SD40-2s lean into the super-elevated curve while slowing in preparation for crossing over three main line tracks. ME-84 will enter the 0 track before reversing on the west leg of the wye for the shove up to Metuchen Yard. |
