Santa Fes Super Chief/El Capitan Train 17 descends the New Mexico side of Raton Pass at Keota with four motors 7902, 5944, 5937, 5936. Note the angle which the signal is aimed (for early view of it), the 3.4% grade above it in background, and the nine hi-level cars comprising the El Capitan section. August 1, 1970, nine months before the advent of Amtrak.
