Southern 1401, in all her Green & Gold glory awaits her second attempt to be moved into the Smithsonian. The first time the 1401 was lifted was at the Navy Yard a few weeks earlier in the month. The route chosen could not accommodate the weight of the Pacific. So, she was set back on rails, moved about 3 miles west to the 6th Street spur and lifted again, this time by a pair of Southern Rwy wreck derricks. This move was successful, and today the 1401 resides in the Smithsonian for all to see.
