Remarks & Notes |
An unexpected quintet of LV SW8s rolls downgrade on the weed-grown LV Mountain Cut Off toward Laurel Run and Coxton. The oversize load visible beyond the SW8s was probably too large for Jersey Central's White Haven Tunnel, the normal route for LV traffic at that time. Dynamic braking and multiple-unit capability gave these SW8s versatility usually lacking in switchers.
This now-abandoned right of way is a planned addition to the Delaware & Lehigh recreational trail.
Visible on the distant mountain side is the abandoned LV passenger mainline to Wilkes-Barre. |
