Remarks & Notes |
When most railfans think of the Utah Railway they usually think of coal trains. But this is a picture of a Utah Railway crude oil train. The transloading of Utah waxy crude to rail is fairly new in Utah. Utah Ry. was the first to establish a loadout in eastern Utah and located it in their Martin yard. It didn’t last too long there before it was moved to a more spacious location at Wildcat siding adjacent to the Wildcat coal loadout. URy makes a turn 3 times a week from Martin yard out the 5 ½ miles to Wildcat and exchanges empty’s for loads. They usually bring about 12 loads back into Martin and build a 35-40 car train of crude once a week and send it over Soldier Summit for interchange. Pictured here is a short turn returning to Martin with 12 loaded tank cars. The location is Tunnel #1, just east of Martin. The CEFX 3103 leaser is most unusual as this is normally the home of pure sets of URy power. |
