Remarks & Notes
A downturn in coal traffic along with newer SD40-2's and C30-7's on the scene have sent many of BN's U30C's into storage. Pictured here at the 31st St. locomotive facility, are a multitude of units including the stored GE's on the right, pairs of SD40-2's used for pushers on the Joint Line and various road and yard power. A count reveals 60 units in twelve models of AT&SF, CB&Q, C&S, GN and SLSF heritage along with BN power purchased new. Some of the more exotic models pictured and still operating at the time in the Denver area included ex C&S SD9's, an ex CB&Q GP40, an ex GN SDP45 and former Frisco four axle U30B's and B30-7's. A sea of Cascade green!

An exclamation attributed to TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, it is this eponymous expression of which certain images convey man and machine versus nature . . .

There are times when many engines, cars or cabooses are concentrated in a location. Such sites are for storage, economic reasons, active power needs or for rebuilding. For others, wear and tear have brought their usefulness to and end.
