Remarks & Notes
Another view of SNCF 141R498 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Chester, Pensylvania in 1946 as it waits to leave Boulogne Maritime station with train GE, the 21.18 to Basel. This engine entered service in February 1946 from Longeau depot and remained there until transferred to Boulogne in about 1970 for a final three years service to 1973. We travelled on this train to Basel and I well remember this stoker-fired engine filling the corridor with cinders as it roared through the night to Laon where it was replaced by electric Bo-Bo No BB-16050 for the rest of the journey across eastern France.
