Short and hot from Green Bay An ultra-short Chicago and North Western freight approaches the Brown Deer Road overpass at Granville, Wisconsin, on a nice October 19, 1986. I never did figure out what this train was, but it pretty cool nonetheless. C&NW SD45 No. 948 leads Milwaukee Road SD40-2 No. 186, pulling a Milwaukee autorack loaded with Ford Escorts, and a TTX flat with a single C&NW trailer, followed by a C&NW caboose. Ford Escorts a hot commodity? Must be something really good in that trailer! And the train has a pretty good horsepower to tonnage rating too… This C&NW “Fox River Valley Line” is no longer in service as a through route, being abandoned between West Bend and Eden.
