| Whiteball summit situated between Wellington and Exeter on the West of England Main Line on a summer Saturday, even as late as the early 1980's was extremely busy. For several hours around lunchtime there was a constant stream of locomotive hauled workings, with trains continually signalled in one direction or another. Over the course of a whole day from dawn till dusk, some 50-60 trains could be seen. 50 022 "Anson" exits the tunnel and passes the tiny signal box with the 09:15 Paddington - Penzance |
