| This is a shot I obtained many years from the late Shelby Lowe. The subject is Southern Ts-class Mountain 1459--a Knoxville Division engine that was then handling trains 27-28, the Carolina Special, between Knoxville and Asheville. The engine exhibits the characteristics of shopping at Coster at Knoxville (all of Southern's steam back shops had different "styling" features for their locomotives). Unusual for the Southern, the green machine is filthy. |
