Remarks & Notes |
BNSF 4592 and UP 6500 bring a coal empty up the west side of the Soldier Summit grade at the lower horseshoe at Gilluly. The train consists entirely of TILX aluminum hoppers. When I first saw the train I was uncertain as to its destination. Was it a Utah Ry train destined for the Savage loadout, or was it a UP train for either the Skyline mine or Savage but with BNSF power? The train had a BNSF rear end helper, so that pretty much eliminated the possibility of it being a Utah Ry train. It continued on over Soldier Summit and down to Helper where it stopped for a crew change. It turns out that this was a UP train bound for the West Elk mine in western Colorado running with pool power. Its destination after loading was Wasco, California. |
