On a beautiful first day in Alaska 2009 a northbound coal empty is at milepost 64, Portage, Alaska. Lead MAC 4013 is from the Alaska RRs first order while 4317 is from the second order. The most notable difference is the flared radiators on the 4317. To the left of the locomotive is the south end of the wye that starts the branch to Whittier.
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
