Remarks & Notes |
Two high cab GP39-2s (792 & 799) built in 1978 for use in Kennecott's Bingham Canyon open pit mine still serve on the rails of their original owner. Now lettered for Tangent Rail Services which provides contract switching on the remains of Kennecott's rail infrastructure, they now earn a living hauling acid trains to and from the UP and switching boxcars of finished copper from the mills out for export. Here the two sisters can be seen light engine at the west end of UP's Garfield Yard. They have just delivered the string of cars directly behind them and will shortly pick up the string of white acid tanks located on the track to the far right. Just to the left of the signal bungalow on the mainline can be seen UP's eastbound "Wendover Local" the LUE50 returning to Roper Yard after overnighting at that town on UT-NV border. |
