Santa Fe 3751's crew members pose for a group portrait shortly before the engine and its train departed for Los Angeles, and home, on April 13th, 2014. The big 4-8-4 spent many years (1958-1986) languishing in a city park about a quarter mile to the right of this location, but thanks to the untold hours of labor over several years, the 1927-built Baldwin was brought back to life in 1988. And a spectactular job they did, too! The Santa Fe Railway operated this engine for 31 years, it spent 28 years in Viaduct Park, and at the time of this photo, has been operational for 26 years as an excursion locomotive. It won't be long before the locomotive's owner, the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society, will have operated it longer than the Santa Fe had!
