For my 2000th contribution on Railpictures I chose this combined moonlight with light streaks picture on the Bernina line of the Rhaetian Railway. During the winter period, in the night of the full moon and in the nights before and after, a special train with panorama cars run from the Engadine to Alp Grüm, where the 90 guests can enjoy the famous glacier fondue (a hot swiss cheese speciality) in the station restaurant. On the way home after 10:30 PM, in the panorama cars the lights are switched off so that the travelers can enjoy the impressive winter landscape enlightened by the moon, accompanied by classical music. The train has left Alp Grüm station about 2 minutes ago and is now at a slope of 7% to the Bernina Pass, with the Palü glacier, Piz Canton and east peak of Piz Palü in the background. The warm light is coming from the passenger compartment of one of the railcars. The snow is slightly polluted by dust from the Sahara in Africa, brought by south winds some weeks ago. Exposure time was 60 seconds.
