Originally this car was built for the UP as #2603, and was eventually inherited by Amtrak and renumbered as 2903. It was one of the first heritage cars to go through the HEP program, and eventually converted into a crew dorm #2504 in the late 90s, then converted to a mobile command center for the Amtrak Police Department and renamed Pacific Command. It was selected to serve as the crew and storage car for the Amtrak Exhibit train, and it was around this time that I received permission to put the original name back on the car, as well as the Pacific Cape and Ocean View. Thanks to some friends at Walthers, we had some help obtaining the original fonts for these names. John Wright's recent photo of similar composition inspired me to upload this shot of the car in the rain back in 2011.
