Photographed during transit to its new home in the Beehive State, Utah Railway SD45-2 #9012 awaits departure from Salt Lake City to Provo. It was built a standard SD45-2 by EMD for the Santa Fe as the ATSF 5625 in May 1972. By July 1987 it would be rebuilt in Santa Fe's San Bernardino, CA shops with a 4200-horsepower Caterpillar Model 3612 engine and renumbered the ATSF 5855. In March 1993 it was purchased by Morrison-Knudsen and repainted/reconditioned to serve as the Utah Railway 9012, upgraded with Maxitrax wheel slip control to haul heavy unit coal trains over Soldier Summit. By July 1995, it was returned to Boise for engine work when the Caterpillar engine was removed and a standard 20 cylinder EMD prime mover (rated at 3200 horsepower) installed. When 9012's lease expired in September 2001, it was shipped to Coast Engine & Equipment in Tacoma, Washington.
