Remarks & Notes
While fanning the C&O Rivanna Subdivision on Aug 25, 1973, we stumbled across this U. S. Army steam locomotive on a flat car at Strathmore, VA. I don't know a lot about it and it raises more questions than I have answers. I do know this. It was being shipped, along with tender X1501 (which I also shot), from the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in Fort Eustis, VA. They had been set out at Strathmore for the tie downs to be tightened. I don't know where they were going and what would finally happen to them. Hopefully, they weren't scrapped. Note the "Gone but not forgotten" chalked on the side of the cab.
