Remarks & Notes |
A empty coal train pokes out of J&L tunnel and leans into the curve as it rolls eastbound. This tunnel went under the Jones and Laughlin Finishing Mills that was located here on the south side of the river. Hot metal trains would run from the blast furnaces located on the north side of the river and would roll across the hot metal bridge located just out of view to the right and would be seen just above the train. Oh how times have changed out of the 20 or so blast furnaces located in the Pittsburgh area only 3 still exist and only two are in operation. This is also the only shot i have seen from the east end of the tunnel on the site. |
